The STDs That Could Cost You for Negligence

If you have an STD and continue to have unprotected sex, please be aware you could be putting yourself at risk for a personal injury lawsuit for your negligence. Even if you spread an STD unintentionally, that is not a defense. Indeed, there are even some cases where even using a condom will not spare a person of a suit for negligence. Here are some of the STD’s that our Palm Springs personal injury attorneys have been known to take on.

Chlamydia

This STD is easily curable – if you know you have it. 50% of men and 70% of women do not realize they have it, so they could pass it on to someone else. Usually the most telltale sign is an abnormal genital discharge. Luckily, a single dose antibiotic can usually cure it.

Gonorrhea

This ailment is often alongside chlamydia and can be only acquired through sexual activity. Symptoms (if any) will include a regular discharge similar to chlamydia. However, many are not aware they have the disease for many years. Men can suffer from urinary tract infections and muscle joint infections because of this disease.

Genital Herpes

Herpes is characterized by painful blisters around the genital organs. Many who exhibit symptoms will know it is coming on simply because of the severe itching and tingling they are experiencing a couple hours before the outbreak. A treatment regimen can be established if caught early.

Genital Warts

Genital warts are extremely itchy cauliflower-like bumps that show up around the anus and the genitals. They are usually not painful, but they are extremely annoying and easily transmitted between partners. Creams and surgery usually are a recommended course of treatment.

Syphilis

This is easily treated today with antibiotics, but if left untreated, can lead to contagious ulcers on the mouth and genitals and can cause brain issues. In some cases, it can be life threatening if not untreated.

Hepatitis B

This can be transmitted either through sexual contact or shared needles. Many people can naturally fight this off, but if you are among the 5 percent who cannot you should consider going to the ER or doctor to discuss your options for treatment.

HIV – Human Immunodeficiency Virus

HIV is initially difficult to recognize and can stay incubated for years. Once it takes hold, however, it can leader to an extremely weakened immune system and for most people it is seriously life threatening without the right drug regimen.
